TEF Canada and TCF Canada are both currently accepted by IRCC for specified pathways. The better choice depends on the programme, current format, accessible centre and the candidate’s diagnostic performance.
Acceptance is the first filter
Check the exact programme and current government page. If both are accepted, verify result validity and score conversions. A test’s popularity or a preparation teacher’s preference cannot override official eligibility.
Compare the experience, not rumours
Review each provider’s current task descriptions and official samples. Complete one diagnostic from each under realistic conditions and note where the interface, timing and production demands fit or expose your skills.
Include logistics and preparation quality
Centre dates, location, accessibility and reliable feedback may decide the practical choice. After choosing, commit to one format while continuing broad French. Do not split every week between two exams simply because both exist.
